IFA and Inter-American Foundation together in favor of Education Sport
The proposal of the Fazer Acontecer Institute for the fostering of sport education in the semi-arid region of the State of Bahia was approved by the Inter-American Foundation September past. This project will serve two municipalities of the State of Bahia for one year, since January, 2009. Initially the local teacher's training program will take place and thereafter two new groups will be opened for free sport classes.

The partnership with Inter-American Foundation is of utmost importance for IFA. Reflection of the Institute's actions in the semi-arid region in conjunction with the UNICEF's Seal of Approved Municipality, the new partnership will help consolidate IFA's projects in the countryside of the State of Bahia .

First court festival at Calabar

In the last week of August, the I Calabar Basket Festival was held. The Festival was supported by IFA and celebrated the moving of the “Basket and Citizenship” project for a fully improved court, located in Calabar neighborhood. Before the move, the project used courts from Bahia Federal University .

The IFA's teacher and the local dweller Paulo Silva, more known as “Fino”, stresses the importance of the move for a court located in Calabar: “the location inside the neighborhood increases the number of people looking for the classes and enables the community to better benefit from the project. With an easier access, the students do not get late for the classes and no longer skip them due to not to count on someone who takes them to the court”.

It is important to stress that move only was possible thanks to the visit of IFA's administrator Ingrid Winkler, and the teacher Paulo, to the NGO Struggle for Peace, located in the community of Maré, in Rio de Janeiro. The NGO opened doors for IFA and provided it with guidance to be followed in Calabar. That travel was sponsored by Empower, an institute's American partner company.

American Student joins IFA as a volunteer
Dave Caras, American student living in New York , did an internship for three weeks September past, with the support of the NGO Pro World. He considered the experience of being in Brazil very constructive and feels very gratified for having dedicated his time as a volunteer at IFA in Salvador : “during this engagement, I was largely welcome both by the organizer and the project's students. I could know popular neighborhoods, places where most foreigner, and many Brazilians, do not show up in. Being there allowed me to understand that community on a personal level and overcome any prejudice I could have on them. I watched a lot of usual activities of a typical neighborhood, such as schools, clinics, shops and such an important projects as Fazer Acontecer, in order to build a civil society. All those wonderful children and teenagers are not different from their more fortunate peers in the United States . I traced modest goals when I first arrived, knowing I'd join the projects for only three weeks, but t I could observe, listen, read, participate and share histories. As a minimum, I could start an increased intercultural comprehension that will remain as volunteers continue to stick to cause of Fazer Acontecer. That's something I1d like to recommend to other adventurers like me”.
Renato has one more article published in an international congress
IFA's coordinator, Renato Paes de Andrade, has his article “Developing Olympism through the partnerships between NGOs and NOCs” approved in the XIII Olympic Congress of the International Olympic Committee, which was held in Copenhagen , Denmark , on Oct, 3 to 5. That was the third Renato's article approved in the past two years in the more important congresses discussing sport in the world.
